On the quantum level the observer determines whether a particle acts as a wave or as a particle: the particles flit between existence and non-existence. This, ties up to the idea that “we create our reality”. Or, as Einstein asked: is the moon there when nobody looks?

With his unrelenting vision, Szász aimed at taking a step back; at reducing his environment to pattern, to yes or no, to white and black. He was one of the most skilled manipulators of the analogue printing process in European photography: he was “Photoshopping” long before the age of digital photography, deciding, as God, which light particle stays on the paper and which one is obliterated.
